What are Calc-Wizards?
Calc Wizards are plug-in tools designed for pricing of products made from multiple manufacturing processes.
Once imported, Calc Wizards are configured with the users Machine, Material and Labour costs. These variables are stored in Clarity price lists and are
used to arrive at a very accurate price of manufacture for each line item on a Clarity quote.
Originally designed for digital print, the lightning-fast Calc-Wizards are now available for calculating many other products and can even be developed
for your products.
How the Benefits Work
There are only three elements to consider when costing:-
- How much material do I need for the job
- How much labour will it take
- How much should I add for machining time
Calc-Wizards take all these into consideration and the calculated costs are still unique to each business as they use different materials supplied at
different costs, have different labour and overhead considerations and use different machines that have different pay-back rates.
Add in the fact that Calc-Wizards can now nest optimise the job at the quoting stage and you have the most accurate costing tools on the market.
Nest optimisation makes sure that you quote the job with the best material yield. Waste Cost is retained and can be charged with the job and equally
important is the fact that only the right amount of material is charged to the job.
If you know your best cost, you stand the best chance of winning the job. Your competitors are left guessing in the dark. If they can beat your price,

- The material requirements can drive purchasing requirements and optionally stock control.
The labour and machine requirements set the manufacturing times for creation of accurate Job Cards and provide accurate Job Scheduling to the available
Capacity using the Production Module.
What You Do Now
There are a few things that makes costs go wrong:-
- You are using the good old trusted spreadsheet to work out your pricing, it has probably been developed over a number of years and you know how it
works, but it doesn't integrate with your Clarity quotations. The calculations for each quote or line item may get saved most of the time, but they
do get lost or over-written from time to time. And they need storing in a nice structured filing system that needs organising and needs to be kept up
to date, because as soon as it isn't you spend hours of time trying to find that costing sheet for that job. Don't panic nearly everyone out there
does it! And when Bill is using the sheet, Fred can't use it and John actually uses a slightly tweaked version because he likes things his way and
before you know it there is no control over pricing, you all come up with different answers to costs.
- You may be using the 'finger in the air' technique for a lot of complex jobs, or the 'we've done one like that before and its only a bit bigger so
its this price' technique, that's if you can find the details on the previous job, which we hope you can by using Clarity!
- Even Clarity Price Wizards or Assembly Templates can produce different answers because it's still up to the user to estimate the amount of materials
and labour. Calc Wizards do this by just entering the quantity, size and raw materials for the job.
